December 4, 1969: Two Members of Black Panther Party Killed By Police
On this day in 1969, Black Panther members Fred Hampton and Mark Clark were killed by 14 police while sleeping in their apartments in Chicago, Illinois. The raid was led by Cook County State’s Attorney Edward Hanrahan as government attempts to weaken the Black Power movement. Hampton and Clark died at age 21 and 22, respectively.
Since I don’t plan on making it back alive a second time, the sooner Gale lets me go, the better. I do plan on saying one or two things to him after the reaping, when we’re allowed an hour for good-byes. To let Gale know how essential he’s been to me all these years. How much better my life has been for knowing him. For loving him, even if it’s only in the limited was that I can manage.
I’m going to [Nassau] Community College for Freshman Orientation lecture. They’ve named it “Homeless to Hollywood”. I’ve never been homeless, I have no idea where they got that from. They do that to us colored folks, ya know. Betcha no one ever told Brad Pitt he was “Homeless to Hollywood.
Even when she is not in character, she is hilarious and honest. I would love to have a conversation with her.
